Before the snow settles in for winter, these top-notch winter sports brands are debuting their seasonal offerings.
It pains us to say it, but the days are getting shorter. Cooler temperatures are on the horizon, and it’s never too early to start thinking about winter recreation. Summer’s fun and all, but have you ever “pointed ‘em downhill, bub?” There’s nothing quite like it. And for Mainers, we know that getting through winter means having an outlet, or a couple, for getting outdoors during the darkest days.
That’s why Maine Outdoor Brands and Thompson’s Point have launched the first-of-its-kind snow show in the state. They’re gathering brands, destinations, nonprofits, advocacy groups, manufacturers, and more to demo their latest offerings in anticipation of the upcoming ‘26–27’ winter. We’re here to give you a rundown of what to expect and what we’re most excited to see.

What We’re Excited to See
Ski Areas
Black Mountain of Maine, Sunday River, Mt. Abram, Sugarloaf, Pleasant Mountain, and Saddleback
New trail development, infrastructure improvements, elevated dining experiences, and lodging overhauls, these ski areas are prepped and ready to showcase how a weekend getaway to the mountains can offer so much more. Sugarloaf is hot off the heels of their West Mountain development, opening new terrain and accessibility to families with beginner and intermediate terrain. Saddleback is back in the saddle, firing on all cylinders with the Casablanca glades and cozy high-brow bites in the Nest. Sunday River continues to be an industry leader in snowmaking and vast terrain offerings. All of these ski areas are poised for an incredible year heading into winter.
Nonprofits
Whether it’s your first season on snow or you’re a seasoned veteran looking to elevate your game, there are nonprofits across Maine looking to help you dive deeper into winter recreation. Inland Woods and Trails in Bethel is an exceptional complement to Sunday River right up the road. They maintain 25 kilometers (15 miles) of Nordic skiing—both classic and skate. In addition, for those who enjoy two wheels, there are 10 miles of groomed singletrack for fat bikes. Rentals are available.
For those more alpine-oriented, Inclusive Ski Touring offers a variety of programs for those interested in ski touring. Ranging from never-evers to skill-based progression programs, their mission is to provide financially accessible group programs to develop an inclusive uphill community. Find them at a variety of ski hills across the Northeast and the pinnacle of backcountry skiing in the region—Mt. Washington.
Lodging
While we love camping, it can get a little “rustic” in the wintertime. That’s when it’s time to splurge and make your accommodations part of the adventure. And a few Maine organizations are doing an incredible job combining love of the outdoors with the cozy cabin vibes Maine is known for.
A classic favorite—the Appalachian Mountain Club provides cabins and lodges across the state and region. From backcountry huts to private cabins and lodges, AMC has an accommodation for everyone. Fresh meals and good outdoor access have us frothing to get back on skis and snowshoes.
Maine Huts and Trails operates in the western Maine mountains and offers eco-lodging experiences. With trails connecting each lodge, explore point-to-point adventures by linking multi-day excursions.
What to Expect
Whether you’re after a new set of planks, off-grid winter exploration inspiration, or connecting with like-minded winter adventurers, the Snow Show is going to kick off the season of snow in Maine. Bring the kiddos, demo new gear, and enjoy libations.
